Bare – No Makeup, No Skincare, What’s Left?

bare emily jayne no makeup

Makeup has always been my weapon of choice – having a down day? I’d reach for the red lippy. Got a hot date? Smokey eyes it is.

It’s a way of expressing myself, of feeling groomed and ‘finished’ for professional purposes, of presenting my best possible face to the world. If I feel like I look good, my confidence is boosted and never mind the fact that it’s just fun to play with!

Skincare is my indulgence. A ritual at the end of the day, little pots and potions, delicious smells, relaxation, a ‘wake me up’ in the morning to feel fresh and clean.

As a stylist and blogger, both makeup and skincare have kind of become part of my identity.

So, you may understand that I’ve been slightly knocked for six by having both things pretty much taken away from me recently! [Read more…]

Review – Ole Henriksen Truth Creme Advanced Hydration & Pure Truth Youth Activating Oil

I’ve written before about my love for Ole Henriksen Invigorating Night Treatment (previously called Invigorating Night Gel)  – it’s just one of those products that I can instantly see ‘works’ for my skin. So, when I was contacted to see if I’d like to try some more products from the line to celebrate them launching recently in Selfridges Birmingham I was somewhat excited.

I explained that my skin is dehydrated/blemish prone and that I’m keen to fight off the first signs of aging, and was sent the Pure Truth Youth Activating Oil (available as part of the Merry and Bright Holiday Kit here) and Truth Creme Advanced Hydration and have now been using them for 2 weeks. Review – The Body Shop Vitamin E Hydrating Toner

Toners have fallen out of fashion in recent years – with many people thinking that they are merely there to remove the last dregs of your cleanser, and if you’ve cleansed properly then what’s the need?

There’s also the fear that a toner is just an alcohol based astringent, meant to ‘tighten pores’, but in most cases simply drying the skin out and making it feel uncomfortably taut.

Well, this is definitely not so of the new generation of toners that have arisen in the skincare world recently. I count a toner as an essential part of my routine – and this beauty from The Body Shop has become a firm favourite. In fact, I’m now on my third bottle (and a bottle lasts a while!), which for someone who likes to swap and change and try new products as much as I do is praise indeed! [Read more…]

Review: Elemis Facial Mapping Analysis

Whether you spend a fortune on skincare products (*coughlikemecough*), stick to a basic routine, or are more of a ‘baby wipes and perhaps a little moisturiser if I get the chance’ type of girl, wouldn’t it be lovely to know for sure the effect that you are having on your face?

Before I went on holiday I was invited to experience an Elemis Facial Mapping Analysis. I’ve been pretty happy with my skin recently – still getting one or two pesky spots around that time of the month, but generally feeling like I’ve moved towards a routine that’s working for me, and feeling pretty glowy really! However, I’m always open to improvement (and new products!) and as I hit the big 3-0 this year  was really interested to see how serious the first signs of aging I’ve noticed are, and whether there’s anything else I should be doing about them. I’m not too fussed about looking my age, but I definitely want to make sure that my skin’s in tip top condition as I grow older (dis)gracefully, and I know that now is when I should be putting the work in to make sure that this happens.
