Winter 2016 at Monsoon Grand Central

When you think Monsoon, what comes to mind? Ball gowns? Evening dresses? Wedding outfits?

If that’s all you think of, then you’re missing out. I’ve long listed Monsoon among my high street faves – among the pretty sparkly dresses (which, let’s face it, I’m always a fan of) you’ll find colourful casual wear and quirky accessories (both in store, and next door courtesy of Accessorize), and of course very importantly – good sizing.

Monsoon Grand Central invited me along to check out their Winter 2016 collection and I spent a very happy morning trying on in their gorgeous personal shopping suite! I entered the large curtained off area, and was greeted warmly by Kate, the store manager, and Wendy, who would be looking after me. Knowing that I’m a big fan of colour, they had picked out a sample capsule wardrobe from their most colourful items in store. It’s great to see when a brand really gets that a capsule wardrobe doesn’t have to be stuffed full of neutrals to work, and as I gazed at the rail I saw gorgeous teals, rusts, yellows and turquoises and looked forward to getting stuck in!

I started by mixing and matching some of the more casual looks, I wasn’t surprised to find some lovely floral print jumpers and tops (as I already have quite a few from Monsoon gracing my own wardrobe!) but was particularly impressed by the cosy and colourful coats (I tried both rust and teal) and also the skinny, high waisted jeans – something I particularly struggle to find a good fit on, and would never have thought of going to Monsoon for previously. I also kind of fell in love with a multicoloured furry pompom scarf, which basically would go with anything!

Although I have been wearing a lot more jeans and tops lately, I fed back to Wendy that I preferred dresses, skirts and softer fabrics, and she delivered in the form of a fab ikat print dress in blues and pinks with a coordinating cardigan that was just my cup of tea, and a red knitted dress and oversize tartan scarf in fab clashing colours – this would be a great option for those Christmas office to party occasions as it could easily be dressed down with a jacket and dark tights, and then up by swapping to some glittery heels and jewellery for the evening.

Finally we whipped out a bit of evening pizazz with a stunning green velvet dress that was soft, comfortable and uber glam – perfect for Christmas parties. (I teamed it with red shoes and handbag for a little extra festive cheer!)

When exploring the store I was tempted by a wealth of gorgeous knitwear – a blush star print Christmas jumper, and chunky blush and grey coatigan particularly stood out.

If you want to see the trying on in action, check out my vlog from that week…

Thanks so much to the ladies from Monsoon Birmingham for a lovely morning (and a huge extra thank you for gifting me the green velvet dress of dreams!)
