The Colour Edit Autumn/Winter 2015-2016 – Marsala

marsala autumn winter 2015 2016Time for the next post in my Autumn / Winter Colour Edit series! Every 6 months, I explore the colours that the powers that be (Pantone!) predict as the big colour trends for the season, and show you my favourite ways to wear them in the shops right now. We’ve already looked at the most on trend ways to wear Green and Orange, this season, and today we’re tackling the big one, the colour of the year 2015, Marsala!

Pantone describes this colour as…

…Interesting on its own and a wonderful contrast for other hues, PANTONE 18-1438 Marsala is a winey red-brown that adds finesse and savoir faire. Rich and robust, Marsala incorporates the warmth and richness of a tastefully fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots point to a sophisticated, natural earthiness..”

Autumn/Winter is a time when you want to snuggle up in your deepest, cosiest colours, and when most people run towards black, Marsala gives you another fabulous option. There’s a reason that it’s this year’s biggest colour! As it’s so strong and deep, those with Light colouring may struggle with it a little, easier to stick to the lighter end of this season’s palette (although, if you love a bit of drama and want to go full goth with wine-stained lips, go for it!). Of course the queens of Marsala are those with Deep colouring – feel free to wear it head to toe. It will also look amazing paired with greys and other soft neutrals on those with Soft colouring, and our redheads can warm it up with gold accessories.

Just a quick note on beauty too -when it comes to Marsala, there’s no need to stick to your wardrobe – this makes an amazing a/w lip, cheek and eye colour, or even gorgeous woven through tresses!

Check out some of my Marsala faves from the high street below. Make sure to follow my Pinterest board too which I’ll keep updated as the season goes on!

Ah such a shame! But there’s loads of marsala around this season, there’ll be another gorgeous dress out there somewhere!

  • I adore this colour! It’s so versatile as well as you mentioned with clothing, make up etc..

    • Emily_Jayne

Yup, it’s a great one for this season – I wasn’t so sure about it when it was announced as colour of the year, but now it’s winter it seems to work so well!

  • What a gorgeous, gorgeous colour! I literally have nothing like this in my wardrobe but it’s just perfect for this time of year! x

    • Emily_Jayne

Isn’t it fab?! It’s not the best on me so I’m totally jealous of those who can pull it off!

  • Now this colour I LOVE. Can I wear this one? Which one am I again? Clear or cool? I forgot.

    • Emily_Jayne

Clear, my lovely! It’s not in your dominant palette, but may well be in one of your subdominants (which we haven’t tested for!!) I’d say, if you love it, go for it! x
